This is what Memorial Day is all about…
United States Armed Forces formerly known as Decoration Day. It originated after the American Civil War to commemorate the Union and Confederate soldiers who died in the Civil War. By the 20th century, Memorial Day had been extended to honor all Americans who have died while in the military service.

/ May 26, 2013In Canada, we celebrate Remembrance Day on November 11 to remember our fallen soldiers, though it’s basically the same as your Memorial Day. It’s important to remember the price of freedom, though we often seem not to.
Deb
/ May 26, 2013We have Veterans Day. It is an official United States holiday which honors people who have served in armed service also known as veterans.
Veterans Day is not to be confused with Memorial Day; Veterans Day celebrates the service of all of veterans, while Memorial Day is a day of remembering the men and women who died while serving.
Thank you, Binky!

/ May 27, 2013I guess our Remembrance day is like your Memorial Day. We don’t have an equivalent to your Veterans Day.
Deb
/ May 28, 2013Strange that we both have a Veteran’s Day on the same day each year with different meanings.
